Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and the Connecticut WIC Card

WIC EBT makes buying your WIC foods easy. With the Connecticut WIC card, your family will have a long list of brands, flavors and package sized to choose from. And, you can buy your WIC foods anytime during the month.

You will use your Connecticut WIC card to buy WIC approved foods at grocery stores that display the "We Accept" sign which shows an image of the Connecticut WIC card.

Your WIC food benefits will be automatically deposited in your account on the first of each month that you or your children are enrolled. To keep your WIC benefits current and your WIC card active, connect with WIC twice a year for appointments. Between appointments, choose nutrition education activities, online learning or in person counseling, including breastfeeding support.

You can get your food balance by checking your last store receipt, using the balance inquiry terminal at the store, at the Current and Future Balance tab on this website, or calling Customer Service at 1-855-222-0510.

How to use your Connecticut WIC card at the store: Use your Family Food Benefits list and the Connecticut WIC Approved Food List to plan and shop with your Connecticut WIC card. Make a grocery list and identify the brands and package sizes of the WIC approved products you plan to buy. At the store, select your WIC food items and when you are ready to check out, you can go to any cashier.

Put your WIC-approved foods together with your other purchases in stores that do automatic scanning. (smaller stores may still require you to separate your WIC items.)
Give cashier any coupons and your store loyalty card if you have one.
Once all your items have been scanned and totaled, use the eWIC card as your FIRST form of payment.
SWIPE your WIC card and follow the directions on the card reader.
Enter your 4-digit PIN on the keypad and press the OK or ENTER key.
If there are items that you are buying that are not on your Family Food Benefits list, you will purchase them using another type of payment.
Some stores may ask you to separate your WIC groceries from your other items and pay with your eWIC Card separately.
When you receive your receipt, make sure the information on the receipt is correct. Save your receipt so you will know your remaining WIC balance the next time you shop. Unused benefits on the last day of use do not carry over to the next month.

PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. You must have a 4-digit PIN to use your Connecticut WIC card. Choose a PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess. For example, don't use your birth date. Never tell anyone else, including a grocery store cashier, your secret PIN. Never write your PIN on your card or card sleeve. DO NOT write your PIN on anything you carry in your wallet or purse.

Your PIN can only be set through the cardhloder customer service at 1-855-222-0510. For security reasons local agency staff can not set your PIN for you.

You can report your card lost, stolen or damaged through the cardhloder customer service at 1-855-222-0510 or at your local WIC agency. You will need to get your replacement card at your local WIC agency.

If your Connecticut WIC card is lost or stolen, call Cardholder Customer Service at 1-855-222-0510 immediately. Your benefits will be protected as soon as you report your card is lost or stolen. A new card with your remaining benefits must be issued at your local agency. You will be able to use your remaining benefits with the new card once you have activated it by selecting a new PIN number

When entering your PIN to make a purchase, be sure no one else can see what number you are entering. If someone learns your PIN and uses your card and PIN to purchase your benefits, these benefits will not be replaced. If you think someone else has learned your PIN, call CardholderCustomer Service immediately to choose a new PIN. Your Connecticut eWIC card and benefits will not change.

Do not use your eWIC card to buy unapproved or ineligible food or non-food items.Do not sell, trade or give away your WIC food benefits, PIN or Connecticut eWIC card.
Do not allow a grocer, grocery cashier or anyone else to buy your food benefits or use your eWIC card in exchange for cash.Do not use someone else's WIC food benefits or Connecticut eWIC card.
Do not return or exchange your WIC foods for unapproved food items, non-food items, credit or cash.
You may be subject to sanctions or legal actions for violation of the above terms
If your formula prescription changes, or if the the doctor changes the brand of infant formula, return the unused or unsuitable formula to your local agency.
